Rural Regeneration Proposal, 2022
Jiexi Village is a rural agricultural community located on the outskirts of Huai'an City in Northern Jiangsu Province. It currently faces significant challenges of poverty and negligence due to a combination of socio-ecological factors, including an aging population, labour shortages due to urban migration, pollution from industrial agriculture, and limited financial resources. This regeneration project aims to address these issues through a series of architectural and landscape design strategies that focus on revitalizing vernacular crops and traditional farming techniques as a means of preserving the cultural and ecological heritage of the area. In addition, the project seeks to create sustainable economic opportunities for local residents through initiatives such as communal kitchens, agriculture-focused tourism activities, and care facilities for the elderly.
街西村是位于苏北的一个贫困村，当前正面临一系列社会与生态问题的挑战，包括人口老龄化、因城市迁移造成的劳动力流失、工业化农业导致的环境污染以及资金短缺等。本次振兴项目旨在通过创新的建筑与景观设计策略应对这些问题，着重于复兴传统作物和农耕技术，以此作为保护乡村文化与生态遗产的一种方式。此外，项目还致力于为当地居民创造可持续的经济机会，例如建设公共厨房、发展以农业为中心的旅游活动，以及建立老年人护理设施。通过将文化遗产保护与当代需求相结合，该项目希望打造一个充满活力、具有韧性并包容多元的乡村社区。
